“I don't often write reviews, but my recent visit to The Roll was truly exceptional. The combination of high-quality food and a great atmosphere left me beaming with joy. I ordered the Futomaki roll and Nigiri set, both of which were incredibly fresh and tender. The Umami Oden Soup I had as a side dish was also delicious. I'm already looking forward to returning and trying more of their dishes.”

The service was very quick, and the owner was very attentive to our needs throughout our meal. Although we are not from San Francisco, when we return, we will definitely be back!”

“Feb 12, 2025: wandered in here on a rainy night in SF; attend a conference here yearly and flew in today. Jay, the owner, has an authentic great thing going here. Had The Roll and Snow Crab Futomaki, both exceptionally good. Topped off with Chu-Toro Nigiri and a great bottle of sake. Kept closing my eyes while enjoying; it was that good. Great service and cool, clean atmosphere. Sorry if I blow it for the people who found this gem already. Just a matter of time. Don’t change a thing Jay. Patrick”

“After visiting Japan back in February I’ve been hesitant eating sushi stateside only because it’s tough to match. Well, I tested the waters again with The Roll and I have to say, WOW!! I was pleasantly surprised. The rolls were so flavorful, the wasabi so fresh, and their traditional cheesecake is a whole other level of incredible. The staff and service were spot on as was the restaurant’s clean and cool ambience. Do yourself a favor and give this sushi place a try. I look forward to the next time I’m in town just for this place.”

“On a rainy day, my friend and I kicked things off with hot sake, which was just what we needed. The Kinoko Nimono was the perfect starter—light, flavorful, and absolutely memorable. We also tried their signature “The Roll,” which was packed with bold flavors and a great balance of textures. The standout, however, was the Unagi Yakiniku Don. The portion of unagi was generous, and the flavors were spot-on—easily one of the best I’ve had in San Francisco. I’ll definitely be coming back to this place soon!”
