The founding members of The Roll have lived in San Francisco for many years and have tasted a wide variety of Japanese cuisine, but it was hard to find food that truly captured the flavors of Japan. While traditional omakase-style restaurants exist, they tend to be very expensive.

So, we started The Roll with the goal of offering the kind of casual, authentic Japanese food we love and making it accessible to more people.

One of our founding members, Chef Alex from Sushi Hakko, who has decades of culinary experience, developed recipes for our futomaki, kaisen-don, and Japanese side dishes that perfectly capture the taste of Japan.

Thanks to his expertise, we’re able to offer authentic Japanese dishes that are hard to find in San Francisco. Also, we use only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients while keeping prices as affordable as possible so more people can enjoy this experience.
